2016: MAN WHO SEXUALLY ASSAULTED BOY PLAYING FOOTBALL JAILED FOR SIX YEARS
A 67-year-old man named Peter Guy, residing on Maden Street in Tyldesley, was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a frightened 13-year-old boy.During the sentencing, a judge described the incident as traumatic for the young victim, attributing it to Guy’s deviant behavior.
The judge highlighted that the victim has endured nightmares since the attack, which occurred in Tyldesley on June 1.
Despite being innocent, the boy feels ashamed, and the incident has altered his personality.
Court records revealed that Guy, who admitted to the assault, had no prior criminal record, and Judge Robert Trevor-Jones characterized the attack as an aberration in his otherwise lawful life.
Prosecutor Neville Biddle explained that the boy had left home around 11:30 am to run an errand for his father and later played among some trees near Queensway.
On his way back, he went down a dirt track off Squires Lane to play football.
During this, he kicked the ball into some nettles and went to retrieve it, only to be approached by Guy, who warned him to watch out for nettles.
The young witness later recalled seeing Guy in the area before, carrying a bag.
Prosecutor Biddle stated that almost immediately, Guy made a sexual advance and pulled the boy into some undergrowth, where he disturbed his clothing and sexually assaulted him on the ground.
Fortunately, a nearby man noticed suspicious activity and took a photograph of Guy.
An attempt by a mother and daughter to calm the boy was unsuccessful, as he ran away.
The mother then sought his father, and after reuniting, the boy broke down crying.
The police were contacted, leading to Guy’s arrest.
He initially denied the allegations but eventually confessed to the crime.
Defending Guy, solicitor Paul Treble mentioned that Guy had been evasive when questioned by police due to shock and disbelief over his actions.
He described Guy as being in a stable relationship with his husband and stated that they planned to move away after his release.
Treble emphasized that the incident was a 'moment of madness' that Guy cannot explain but deeply regrets and feels remorseful about.
As part of his sentence, Guy was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
