TYLDESLEY BACKYARD BREEDER LAURA HALL CONVICTED FOR CRUELTY TO DOGS IN FILTHY CRATES

Laura Hall, a backyard breeder from Tyldesley, has been found guilty of severe animal neglect after a disturbing investigation into her treatment of dogs kept at her residence. Born on March 8, 1993, Hall resides at 1D Lincoln Drive in Tyldesley, Manchester, with the postcode M29 8LL. Her case has drawn significant attention due to the appalling conditions in which she kept her animals, revealing a pattern of overbreeding and neglect that spanned several weeks.

Authorities from the RSPCA responded to a report concerning an underweight dog and suspected overbreeding at Hall’s home. Animal Rescue Officer (ARO) Pierce was dispatched to investigate and was met with a scene of utter neglect. Upon arrival, he described the environment as overwhelming with a strong smell of ammonia and faeces, so intense that it caused difficulty in breathing. The living room was cluttered with rubbish and hazards, creating an unsafe and unsanitary environment for both the animals and anyone entering.

In the room, three dogs were confined within stacked crates, each overflowing with faeces and urine. The officer detailed that each crate contained a single dog, and the conditions were deplorable. One of the dogs, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was found in a small crate with a large puddle of urine on the floor. Adjacent to this was a slightly larger crate housing a Merle Bull breed dog, also covered in faeces. Over these, a smaller crate contained a French Bulldog, similarly caked in faeces, with no dry or clean space for the dog to sit or stand. The faeces from the upper crate were overflowing and falling into the crate below, further emphasizing the neglect.

There were no clean bowls available for the dogs, and the entire environment was hazardous. The officer called the police for assistance, and the dogs were seized immediately. They were transported to the RSPCA Greater Manchester Animal Hospital for urgent treatment. Veterinary examinations revealed that Zeus, one of the dogs, was suffering from a urine scald on his scrotum and two scalds on his paw pads, injuries consistent with prolonged neglect. The other dogs’ feet and legs were heavily soiled with faeces and urine, indicating they had been living in these conditions for several weeks.

Hall pleaded guilty to two offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 during her court appearance at Wigan Magistrates’ Court. As part of her sentencing, the court issued deprivation orders for Zeus and Rocky, who are now in the care of RSPCA animal centres and will be available for rehoming in the future. Additionally, Pearl, another dog seized from her, had already been signed over to the RSPCA, which has since found her a loving new home.

The court handed down a 12-month community order requiring 100 hours of unpaid work. Hall was also ordered to pay court costs amounting to £1,082.40. Furthermore, she received a two-year ban from keeping animals, which will expire in August 2026, to prevent her from reoffending. This case highlights the ongoing issues of backyard breeding and animal cruelty in the Tyldesley area, with authorities emphasizing the importance of vigilance and reporting such neglect to protect vulnerable animals.
