PETER ALEXANDER OF PERTH SENTENCED AFTER DOMESTIC ABUSE INCIDENTS

A young woman from Aberuthven has come forward to share her harrowing experience of domestic violence inflicted by her former boyfriend, Peter Alexander. Kimberley Anderson, aged 19, recounted her terrifying ordeal, describing how her life was threatened during their tumultuous relationship. Kimberley detailed her fears and the emotional toll of her encounters with Alexander, who she now describes as having transformed into a 'monster' during their abusive episodes.

The court proceedings revealed that Alexander, who currently resides on Green Road in Balbeggie, was convicted following a trial at Perth Sheriff Court last week. The charges stemmed from an incident that took place at South Inch Terrace in Perth, between October 21 and December 14, 2018. During this incident, Alexander allegedly detained Kimberley against her will by closing the door of the property and refusing to let her leave. This act of abduction was compounded by physical assaults, including pulling her hair and pushing her down the stairs, which resulted in injuries to Kimberley.

Despite the gravity of these offenses, the court opted for a lenient sentence, ordering Alexander to complete 300 hours of unpaid community service rather than imposing a prison sentence. The sheriff acknowledged the seriousness of the crimes but took into account Alexander’s previous conduct and the circumstances surrounding the case. Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, the sheriff granted an 18-month period for Alexander to fulfill his community service obligations.

Kimberley Anderson expressed her disappointment with the court’s decision, stating that she had hoped for a custodial sentence. She shared her ongoing emotional distress and the lasting impact of the abuse she endured. Kimberley first met Alexander when she was just 13 or 14 years old through mutual friends, and their relationship lasted approximately four years. She admitted that she was in love with him initially and did not fully recognize the severity of his abusive behavior at the time. Kimberley also revealed her fears of not being believed because of her young age.

Her escape from the abusive relationship involved calling her sister and seeking support from Perthshire Women’s Aid. Kimberley emphasized her desire to move forward and heal from her trauma, stating, “I was scared for my life.” She expressed gratitude to witnesses and the Women’s Aid organization for their support and urged other women facing similar situations to find the courage to speak out, adding, “It’s never too late to speak up.”
