CARE WORKER JAILED FOR ASSAULTS ON DEMENTIA PATIENTS AND HER OWN MOTHER
This is the face of a care home assistant who attacked a dementia-suffering patient after downing wine.Nottingham Crown Court heard how Paula Bailey, of Clumber Street, Long Eaton, pulled clumps of hair from her victim and also from her own elderly mother during three separate assaults.
Notably, Bailey pulled hair from her own mother and struck her.
The attacks occurred during the summer of last year while Bailey was working at Acacia Care Home in Sherwood Rise, Nottingham.
The court was told both women have since died, but neither death was linked to the assaults.
Bailey pleaded guilty to three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one of wilful neglect.
The judge sentenced her to 26 months in prison, citing her breaches of trust and the unprovoked nature of the assaults.
Bailey, who has 35 years of experience in the care industry and a previous conviction for drink-driving, cried as she was taken down.
Her lawyer unsuccessfully urged the judge to suspend the sentence.
A care home spokesperson stated: 'The health, safety, and wellbeing of everyone living in our homes are our highest priorities...
This individual’s behaviour goes against everything we stand for as an organisation.'
