LONG EATON MAN JAILED FOR 27 YEARS IN CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND RAPE CASE

A man from Long Eaton has been given a 27-year jail sentence for a series of child sex offences and rape.

Nigel Jackson, of William Street, was found guilty of 17 offences carried out between 2003 and 2019, and some which took place in Derbyshire. The 57-year-old was arrested in February 2019, shortly after the report was made.

He denied all the charges, which included:

Five counts of raping a girl and one attempted rape of a girl

Four counts of sexually touching a girl

Three counts of raping a woman and one count of sexually assaulting a woman.

Two counts of assault by penetration of a girl

One count of sexual assault by penetration of a woman.

A lengthy investigation was carried out and DNA evidence helped secure the conviction.

Detective Sergeant Ryan McVeigh who investigated the case said: “The victim was as young as 11 when the abuse began and it’s difficult to even begin to understand the suffering that Jackson has caused her.

“I would like to commend the bravery the victim has shown in reporting what happened to her, and for her cooperation throughout the investigation and the court process.”

Det. Sgt. McVeigh added: “No one should ever have to go through this and I hope that this process and the sentence Jackson received goes some way in helping the victim deal with what has happened to her.”

“As this case shows, we treat all reports of non-recent sexual offences seriously, and strive to make sure the wishes and needs of the victim are the top priority. All allegations will be thoroughly investigated.”
