JOHN ROSE FROM LONG EATON SENTENCED IN DERBYSHIRE FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND SEX OFFENCES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Long Eaton and the wider Derbyshire area, John Rose, aged 53, has been sentenced to prison after a series of serious offences related to child exploitation and breaches of court orders. The case was heard at Derby Crown Court, where the details of Rose's crimes were laid bare, revealing a pattern of disturbing behavior involving the possession and sharing of indecent images of children.According to court reports, Rose was found in possession of a video clip depicting a 10-year-old girl performing a sexual act. This video was downloaded from the internet, and its discovery was a key factor leading to his arrest. Prosecutors detailed how Rose had taken steps to conceal his illicit activities, including deleting his internet search history and restoring his smartphone to factory settings in an apparent attempt to erase evidence of his crimes. Despite these efforts, investigators were able to recover incriminating data that linked him to the offences.
Further investigation revealed that Rose had opened a bank account and successfully applied for both debit and credit cards without informing the police, despite being under a court order that prohibited such actions. This court order was part of a series of restrictions imposed on him following previous convictions. The prosecution highlighted that Rose was aware of these restrictions but continued to act in defiance of them.
During the hearing, Judge Robert Egbuna sentenced Rose to 26 months in prison. The judge emphasized the severity of Rose’s actions, stating, “You were searching for images of young girls, looking at images of young girls, and by your own admission, you were sharing them. You then deleted the internet history on your mobile phone, and the whole purpose of that was to ensure the police would not discover what you were doing.”
Leanne Summers, representing the prosecution, explained that Rose had previously been handed a three-year community order in January 2014 for possessing indecent images of children. She also noted that Rose was subject to a sexual offences protection order, which explicitly forbade him from opening bank accounts or applying for credit cards without police notification. As a registered sex offender, Rose was also prohibited from deleting internet history on any devices he owned.
The police received intelligence indicating that Rose had downloaded an indecent image of a child, which prompted their investigation. On August 5, officers executed a search warrant at his residence on William Street in Long Eaton. During the search, they recovered a mobile phone and several credit cards. Further inquiries revealed that Rose had opened multiple bank accounts dating back to 2017 without reporting these activities to the authorities, as required by law.
In his police interview, Rose admitted to searching for images of young girls in their underwear on platforms like Google and Instagram. He also confessed to sharing such images, further implicating him in the offences. Rose pleaded guilty to one count of making an indecent image of a child, four counts of breaching the sex offender register notifications, and three counts of violating the terms of his sexual harm prevention order.
As part of his sentence, Rose was not only given a prison term but also received a new 10-year order, which will keep him on the sex offender register for a decade. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which the justice system treats offences involving the exploitation of children and breaches of court-imposed restrictions, especially for individuals with prior convictions in this sensitive area.
