PAUL TURNBULL FROM GOSFORTH JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN NEWCASTLE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Paul Turnbull, a civil servant residing in Gosforth, Newcastle, has been sentenced to prison for possessing and hoarding a significant collection of child abuse images. The conviction follows a police investigation that uncovered hundreds of indecent photographs depicting children as young as six years old.Turnbull, aged 48, was found to have accumulated a total of 442 illicit images on his personal computer. The authorities also discovered a draft of a short story authored by him, which revealed an unsettling fascination with young girls, further highlighting his disturbing interests. The evidence presented in Newcastle Crown Court painted a grim picture of Turnbull’s activities, which included approximately 4,000 online searches related to child pornography.
The police executed a search warrant at Turnbull’s residence in September of the previous year. During the raid, they seized his computer and mobile phone, which served as the primary sources of the incriminating material. When questioned, Turnbull claimed that his interest in the images was an attempt to understand the public’s outrage over such material, asserting that he did not derive sexual gratification from viewing the images. However, this explanation was not accepted by the court.
Judge James Goss sentenced Turnbull to six months in prison after he pleaded guilty to 12 child pornography offences. The judge emphasized the severity of the crimes, stating, “The children in question were young children, a lot of them six, seven, eight years old and engaging in sexual activities with adults. You are a man of previous good character, and your world has come crashing down around you by way of your interest in indecent images of children.”
Throughout the proceedings, the court was informed of the devastating impact such crimes have on victims and the community. Turnbull’s actions have not only led to the loss of his job but also resulted in significant legal consequences. He has been ordered to sign the sex offender register for a period of seven years and was subjected to a sexual offences prevention order, restricting his future conduct.
Turnbull, who resides at Lowick Court in Gosforth, Newcastle, faces a bleak future as he begins serving his sentence and adjusting to the legal restrictions imposed upon him. His case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing fight against child exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in protecting vulnerable victims.
