GOSFORTH MAN PUNCHED WOMAN IN THE FACE AT KELSO WEDDING
A 39-YEAR-OLD man punched a woman in the face to her injury on the dance floor at a wedding in Kelso, Jedburgh Sheriff Court has been told.Oliver Heart, of Gosforth, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened on August 16.
Ruaridh Allison, prosecuting, said the female victim was at a friend’s wedding while Heart was in a relationship with the bride’s sister at the time.
Mr Allison said: “At the reception the accused became intoxicated and caused a bit of a nuisance.
“At 11.30pm, he approached the woman on the dance floor and she told him to go away and gestured it with her hand.
“The accused took exception to this and punched her with a closed fist to her left cheek which knocked her to the ground.
“He was removed from the locus by a number of others present.” Mr Allison said the woman tended to the injury by placing ice on her cheek before the guests dispersed to bed and breakfasts in the Kelso area.
She attended Kelso Police Station but was sent away on account of her own intoxication.
The court heard that Heart’s partner broke up with him due to the incident.
But, he was unable to drive to court as he has suffered a serious injury to his heels.
Sheriff Robert Fife deferred sentence for a personal appearance until April 7, indicating a fine or a community payback order would be imposed when the case called again.
