DRUNKEN MAN ASSAULTING PARTNER AND MAKING THREATS IN BREIGHTMET

A 40-year-old man named Paul Smith from Breightmet pleaded guilty in Bolton magistrates court to two counts of assault and one of witness intimidation.

According to the prosecution, on June 1, Smith and his partner, Nicola Ormerod, had been drinking and got into an argument after she turned down the television and knocked a sandwich out of his hand.

Miss Ormerod stated that she went upstairs and ten minutes later, Smith followed her and punched her two or three times in the thigh.

The incident was reported to police, but while Smith was out on bail for the initial assault, he punched his partner in the face again and later made a threatening phone call, warning her that he would kill her if she contacted police.

Smith, who has been together with his partner for 11 years, has now ended the relationship.

He was sentenced to a community order with 15 months supervision, and the magistrates also issued a restraining order preventing him from contacting his ex-girlfriend or going to her home.

Additionally, he was ordered to pay her £50 in compensation, as well as costs amounting to £85 and a £60 victim surcharge.
