PAUL ROBERTS, THE SEX OFFENDER FROM CARLISLE, JAILED AGAIN FOR OFFENDING IN WEST CUMBRIA
In a recent development in the ongoing efforts to monitor and control convicted sex offenders, Paul Roberts, a known individual from Carlisle, has been remanded back into custody following new criminal behavior in West Cumbria.Roberts, who has a long history of serious sexual offenses, was brought before Carlisle Crown Court to face charges related to his failure to adhere to court-mandated restrictions and reporting obligations.
Roberts’s criminal history is particularly grave.
In 2003, he was convicted of raping a child under the age of 16.
The case was heard at Chester Crown Court, where he received a substantial sentence of ten years in prison.
As part of his punishment, Roberts was also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life, a legal requirement designed to keep authorities informed of his whereabouts and prevent further offenses.
However, despite these strict conditions, Roberts’s compliance with the court’s orders was short-lived.
In early October, mere weeks after being released from prison for a previous breach of his court orders, Roberts was found to have failed to meet his legal obligations while residing in the Workington area.
It was reported that he did not notify the authorities of his current address, which is a direct violation of the terms set out by the court.
Furthermore, Roberts was found to be staying at an address where a person under the age of 18 was present, a fact he did not disclose to authorities.
These breaches raised serious concerns about his compliance and the potential risk he posed to the community.
Roberts admitted to the charges of failing to notify the authorities of his address and of staying at a location with a minor present.
Additionally, during his arrest, illegal possession of class C diazepam was discovered, adding another layer to his legal troubles.
The court sentenced him to 12 months in prison for these violations.
Judge Andrew Jefferies QC addressed Roberts directly, stating, “This was a deliberate failure to comply with the requirements.” The judge’s comments underscored the seriousness of Roberts’s breaches and the importance of strict enforcement of the conditions placed upon sex offenders to protect the public from potential harm.
