PAEDOPHILE PAUL GORDON FROM ERSKINE CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In October 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving Paul Gordon, a 58-year-old man from Erskine, who was found to have been engaging in illegal online activities related to child exploitation. Gordon was apprehended after authorities discovered he had downloaded hundreds of indecent images depicting children being abused, all from the comfort of his family home.Investigations revealed that Gordon had been actively browsing disturbing websites, seeking out photographs of minors subjected to abuse, in order to fulfill what he described as his "fantasy life." The authorities confirmed that his online activity was not a one-time occurrence but part of a pattern of disturbing behavior. Experts who assessed Gordon following his arrest indicated that he harbored an entrenched sexual interest in children aged approximately 10 years and early adolescence, highlighting the severity of his offending.
During a court hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court, Gordon admitted to hoarding a significant number of these illicit images. The court was informed that he had downloaded a total of 217 indecent images of children between November 1 and 6 of the previous year. Throughout the proceedings, Gordon’s wife and daughters were present, standing by him as he faced justice.
Sheriff Colin Pettigrew addressed the court, stating, "You have pled guilty to a charge of downloading 217 indecent images of children. Clearly, there is a pattern of offending, and you were actively searching specific websites. You knew this activity was harmful, yet you did not cease. You are very fortunate to have the support of your wife and family. You have been assessed as a moderate risk."
It was revealed that Gordon had accumulated this collection of illicit images over a six-day period at his residence on Douglas Street in Erskine. His online activity involved visiting child abuse websites multiple times each week, and he admitted to having an interest in extreme pornography for the past decade. However, he claimed that his interest in viewing children being tortured only began within the last year.
Gordon justified his actions by stating that viewing these images provided him with an escape from depression, which he attributed to personal issues, including problems within his marriage. As part of his sentencing, he has been banned from contacting anyone under the age of 16 online. Nevertheless, there are no restrictions on in-person contact with minors. Additionally, he has been ordered not to delete his internet search history and can only access the web with explicit permission from authorities.
Furthermore, Gordon has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register and will be required to participate in regular meetings with social workers. He is also mandated to attend counseling sessions to address his offending behavior, emphasizing the seriousness with which the justice system is treating this case.
