KENT MAN JAILED FOR KILLING EX-PARTNER IN JEALOUS RAGE
Paul Fender, a 44-year-old builder from New Romney in Kent, was involved in a tragic domestic homicide. He murdered his former partner, 28-year-old Karren Martin, by stabbing her with a seven-inch kitchen knife inside her home.
The incident was triggered after Fender discovered her new romantic relationship, which provoked his anger.
Fender admitted to police that he had gone to her residence to confront her about her new partner and that he lost control upon hearing her confirm the relationship.
He stated, "I just wanted all the pain to go away, I'd had enough." He also confessed that the stabbing occurred during a jealous fit.
The court found that Fender was not guilty of murder due to provocation but convicted him of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
He received a nine-year prison sentence.
During the hearing, the judge described Fender’s actions as driven by obsession and jealousy, noting, "You had become obsessed with her and insanely jealous of anyone involved with her," and added, "You killed her in front of toddler Lilly, aged two." The court also acknowledged the profound impact on their children, including Lilly, who was present during the attack, and Callum, her 11-year-old son from a previous relationship.
Fender’s legal team acknowledged his remorse, and the judge emphasized that while the sentence reflects justice, "no sentence can bring her back," referring to Karren Martin's untimely death.
