PAUL EVANS OF TELSCOMBE CLIFFS ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD ABUSE IMAGE DISCOVERY IN BRIGHTON COURT
In October 2017, Paul Evans, aged 52, from Telscombe Cliffs, was found to have downloaded approximately 800 indecent images of children onto his computer.Police raided his home in Telscombe Cliffs Way, Peacehaven, following concerns raised by his web activity.
Evans admitted in court to making 336 of the most serious category A images, including those depicting penetrative sexual activity with children.
The investigation revealed that between November 30, 2016, and December 1, 2016, Evans uploaded 110 indecent images via online file-sharing software.
Authorities tracked his IP address and executed a search warrant on July 5, 2017, seizing his computer during the raid.
During his police interview, Evans stated, “I look at all types of porn, teenage and child porn, but haven’t distributed any.” Prosecutor Laura Devitt noted that Evans was fully aware of his actions and accepted full responsibility, saying, “He said ‘I am solely responsible for downloading child porn.
I wish I was caught during my stage watching bestiality porn.’” Further examination found Evans possessed 336 Category A images involving penetrative acts, along with 81 Category B images of non-penetrative acts and 350 Category C images.
In court, magistrates acknowledged the severity of the offense.
Chairman Gary Gates explained that the sentence for possessing such images, especially Category A, starts at 12 months in prison.
However, due to the seriousness of the case, he decided to send Evans to Lewes Crown Court for sentencing, scheduled for October 19.
Evans was granted bail on the condition that he attends the hearing and provides his details to police, including any addresses where minors under 18 reside.
Evans was handed a ten-month suspended sentence for two years, required to sign the sex offenders register, and was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order valid for 10 years.
