WALTHAMSTOW: SEX ATTACKER JAILED
A SEX attacker who bit his victim has been jailed.Paul Douglas, 42, of Hoe Street in Walthamstow, admitted sexually assaulting and robbing a woman at Maryland train station in Stratford last October.
His 27-year-old victim, who is from Waltham Forest and cannot be named, was waiting alone on the platform at 2am after missing her stop.
She was approached by Douglas, who pushed her to the ground and assaulted her.
As she tried to defend herself and cried for help, the victim was bitten and suffered bruising on her body and legs.
People living near the station heard her screams and shouted at the attacker, who then stole his victim's mobile phone and purse before leaving the station.
The victim then sought help from a taxi driver who called police.
Douglas was arrested five days later after detectives identified him using CCTV.
He was initially charged with attempted rape, but on April 10 admitted sexual assault and robbery.
He was sentenced on Thursday to five and a half years in jail at Blackfriars Crown Court.
Detective Constable Paul Cudby, who led the investigation, said: "I would firstly like to commend the victim for her brave actions of reporting this serious incident to police and thoroughly assisting us throughout our enquiries.
This was a horrific ordeal which has left her deeply distressed.
I welcome the strong sentence which has been handed to Douglas and hope that the victim and her family are able to take some comfort from the fact that this man has now been brought to justice."
