PAEDOPHILE TWINS CONVICTED AFTER FAILED SUICIDE ATTEMPT
Paedophile twins who abused little girls were finally exposed when one brother, David Donnelly, confessed after a failed suicide attempt.David and Paul Donnelly, both 58, molested their young victims in the 1980s when they were in their 20s.
David attempted to kill himself by jumping off a bridge on June 13, 2018, breaking his arms, legs, knees, and pelvis.
During treatment at Salford Royal Hospital, he told a nurse, "I'm sorry for what I've done," and admitted to raping two girls and making one perform a sex act on him.
The brothers were later charged with indecent assaults, though the allegations didn't go quite as far as David claimed.
Both described making the victims perform sexual acts and exposing themselves, with Paul admitting to molesting the first girl on about 10 occasions and exposing himself to the second.
Court heard David had no previous convictions, but Paul was convicted of indecent exposure in 1979.
The first girl told the court she only disclosed the abuse after David's confession, suffering flashbacks, PTSD, and struggles with alcohol addiction.
David admitted two counts of indecent assault, and Paul admitted three counts regarding the first girl.
They each must sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
David, who had significant mental health issues and previously tried to tell people about the abuse, was sentenced to 16 months, and Paul to 20 months in prison.
The judge highlighted the devastating impact of their abuse on the victims.
