2015: MAN JAILED FOR 'OPPORTUNISTIC FURTIVE GROPING' SEX ASSAULT OF SEVEN-YEAR-OLD BOY
A man aged 56 has been sentenced to two and a half years in jail after being found guilty of sexually abusing a young boy.
Patrick McGinn, from Warwick Street, Leigh, was convicted by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court of four offences of sexual assault against the child, who was between seven and eight years old when the abuse took place.
The judge, Thomas Teague QC, characterized the abuse as “opportunistic furtive groping” and noted that it occurred on as many as 15 separate occasions.
McGinn was described as having not groomed his victim, who provided a measured and mature statement to the court.
The judge took into account McGinn’s epilepsy and lack of previous convictions, suggesting prison would be particularly difficult for him.
McGinn was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders' register for life, and he remained emotionless throughout the proceedings.
