PATRICK COULTER FROM PADGATE ESCAPES PRISON AFTER CHILD INDECENT IMAGES SCANDAL IN LIVERPOOL
In a case that has shocked the local community of Padgate and the wider Liverpool area, Patrick Coulter, a 35-year-old man from Jurby Court in Padgate, narrowly avoided imprisonment after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of children as young as five. The incident came to light following a police operation in April 2015, which involved a search warrant executed at Coulter’s residence.During the raid, law enforcement officers seized multiple electronic devices, including computers and storage media, which were subsequently subjected to detailed forensic analysis by specialists. The investigation uncovered a disturbing collection of material stored on Coulter’s devices, comprising indecent images and videos categorized as A, B, and C, depicting children in sexual situations. Additionally, the authorities found extreme pornography, including content involving bestiality, which further compounded the severity of the case.
It was alleged that Coulter actively searched for and downloaded these illicit images online over a period spanning from April 2011 to April 2015. Despite the evidence, Coulter maintained his innocence throughout the investigation. However, a jury convicted him earlier this year on six counts of making indecent images of a child, possession of such images, and possession of extreme pornography.
At Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday, Coulter faced sentencing. His defense solicitor, Martine Snowdon, highlighted Coulter’s background, noting that he had previously worked in the nursing sector and had been a law-abiding, hardworking individual with a respected reputation within his family and community. Snowdon emphasized that Coulter had lost his employment and future prospects due to the investigation, which also contributed to the breakdown of his relationship at the time.
She stated, “He has spent his life, other than his involvement with these images, as a law-abiding, hard-working, respectful, and respected individual both within his family and within his work environment. He has shown support and care within his roles professionally and he is much loved within his family.”
Furthermore, a report from the Probation Service assessed Coulter as being at a ‘low risk of reoffending,’ which appeared to influence the court’s decision. Despite the gravity of the crimes, Judge Robert Trevor-Jones criticized Coulter for showing no remorse and condemned the possession of such exploitative material, which he described as exploiting children worldwide.
Nevertheless, the judge decided to suspend Coulter’s 15-month sentence for two years, citing his previous good character as a mitigating factor. Judge Trevor-Jones remarked, “If there had been any suggestion that you had distributed these images, you would have been going straight to prison, but by a whisker I am suspending the sentence.”
As part of his sentence, Coulter is required to complete 35 days of rehabilitation activities, undertake 160 hours of unpaid work, and sign the sex offenders’ register. Additionally, he is subject to a sexual harm prevention order, aimed at restricting his future conduct and ensuring community safety.
