PARAMVEER JAGDEV FROM EARLEY SENTENCED FOR ONLINE GROOMING AND SEXUAL ABUSE IN WILTSHIRE
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of online predators, Paramveer Singh Jagdev, a 25-year-old man from Earley, Berkshire, has been convicted and sentenced for grooming and sexually abusing underage girls. The incident came to light after Jagdev engaged in a series of manipulative online interactions with two 13-year-old girls from Wiltshire, whom he had initially contacted through an internet chat room in January 2012.Using a false identity, Jagdev pretended to be a 16-year-old boy, employing fake photographs to conceal his true identity and evade detection. Over the course of several weeks, he systematically groomed the two girls, who were friends, by bombarding them with numerous text messages and phone calls, gradually building a relationship of trust and influence. His manipulative tactics culminated in persuading one of the girls to meet him in Tidworth, where he committed a sexual act in his car against her will.
When the girl refused to meet again, Jagdev responded with threats of violence directed at both girls and their families, attempting to intimidate them into silence. The victims confided in their parents about the assault, prompting a police investigation. Authorities uncovered a trove of evidence on Jagdev’s computer, including highly sexual conversations with four different girls and a collection of 83 indecent photographs.
Following a trial, Jagdev was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a child and grooming the two 13-year-old girls. His sentencing took place at Winchester Crown Court, where he received a total of four years in prison for the sexual activity charge and an additional two years for grooming and inciting sexual acts. The sentences are to run concurrently, meaning he will serve the combined time simultaneously.
Wiltshire Police, represented by Detective Constable Paula Clissold, emphasized the predatory nature of Jagdev’s actions. She stated, “He preyed on two young vulnerable girls and was fully aware of their age, targeting them for this reason.” She further noted that Jagdev’s actions pose a significant risk to children, and the prison sentence, along with his placement on the sex offenders register for life, aims to prevent future offenses and protect the community.
Authorities hope that the conviction and sentencing serve as a warning to potential offenders about the serious consequences of online grooming and sexual exploitation of minors, especially in the context of increasing digital interactions that can be exploited by predators like Jagdev.
