OWEN DAVIES SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CHILD RAPE IN ROTHWELL
In a case that has shocked the community of Rothwell, Owen Davies, aged 39, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of heinous crimes involving a young girl. The court proceedings, held at Leeds Crown Court, revealed the disturbing details of the offenses committed by Davies, who was accused of abusing a ten-year-old girl at his former residence on Fleet Lane in Rothwell.According to the prosecution, Neil Clark, the court heard that Davies committed two counts of raping a child under the age of 13, along with a charge of sexual assault. The incidents reportedly took place while the young girl was visiting or staying at Davies's home, raising serious concerns about the safety and well-being of children in the community.
During the trial, a relative of the victim contacted Davies directly to confront him about the allegations. In a chilling response, Davies reportedly admitted, “Perhaps I have done it sub-consciously,” which the court interpreted as an attempt to minimize or deny the severity of his actions. The defense, represented by Chloe Fairley, emphasized that Davies had no prior criminal record, attempting to portray him as a first-time offender.
However, Judge Kerry MacGill was unequivocal in her judgment. She condemned Davies’s partial admissions, stating, “You made partial admissions that you had done something unintentionally. That does not wash with me. What you have done is obscene and horrible.” The judge’s words underscored the gravity of the crimes and the impact on the young victim.
As a result, Owen Davies was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the two counts of rape. Additionally, he received a concurrent sentence of ten years for the sexual assault, ensuring that his time behind bars would be substantial. The sentences reflect the court’s stance on protecting children and punishing those who commit such egregious acts within the Rothwell community.
