NORTHAMPTONSHIRE ABUSER STRANGLED WOMAN UNTIL SHE BLACKED OUT
A man who rendered his partner unconscious by choking her has been sentenced to jail, with police emphasizing the deadly risk involved.Michael McGrady, aged 58, confessed to assaulting the woman at a residence in Rothwell, near Kettering, Northamptonshire, during March.
The court proceedings revealed that McGrady, residing on Newtown Road in Little Irchester, also assaulted the woman by kicking, pulling her hair, and throwing her into furniture, leading to severe bruising.
Following his arrest shortly thereafter, he faced charges of non-fatal strangulation and actual bodily harm.
In May, McGrady pleaded guilty to both charges in Northampton Crown Court, where he was subsequently sentenced to a year in prison this Thursday.
Detective Constable Grace Burman highlighted the severity of such acts, noting that research indicates a person can die in just 62 seconds if their airway is obstructed.
She emphasized that strangulation is extremely perilous and that individuals capable of sustaining such violence are notably dangerous.
Officers urge victims to come forward, stressing that help is available and that no one needs to live in fear.
Burman underscored the importance of victims understanding that they can seek protection and support from police.
