PERTH MAN OMID HASSAN ON THE RUN AFTER CONVICTION FOR FIFE RAPE CASE

Detectives are actively seeking to locate Omed Hassan, a man who vanished before he could be formally sentenced after being convicted of a serious sexual assault in Fife. The incident took place at an address in St Andrews, where Hassan was accused of raping a student.

Hassan, aged 26 and residing in Perth, failed to appear at the High Court in Edinburgh on the final day of his trial. This day was crucial as jurors were deliberating their verdict, which ultimately led to his conviction. The court proceedings revealed that Hassan had denied the allegations, claiming he did not assault the woman while she was asleep and unable to give consent. The incident was alleged to have occurred on February 3, 2023, in Fife.

Despite his denial, the jury found him guilty. The presiding judge, Lord Ericht, explained that it was in the interests of justice for the trial to continue in his absence, given his failure to appear. Following the guilty verdict, a warrant was issued for Hassan’s arrest. It was also noted that he had been on bail since February of the previous year.

In addition to the arrest warrant, the court deferred sentencing to allow for the preparation of a background report, which is standard procedure in such cases. Hassan was also placed on the sex offenders' register, reflecting the severity of the conviction.

According to Police Scotland, Hassan is approximately 6 feet tall, with short black hair. Authorities have indicated that he is known to frequent several locations, including Perth, Aberdeen, and Fife. The police have issued a warning to the public not to approach Hassan directly and have urged anyone with information regarding his current whereabouts to contact the police immediately.

Law enforcement continues to investigate his disappearance, and they are appealing for assistance from the community to ensure he is apprehended and brought to justice.
