HERTSMERE MAN SENTENCED FOR BLEACH ATTACK ON GIRLFRIEND IN CAMBRIDGE
Oliver Sheaf, aged 20 and without a permanent address in Hertfordshire, received a sentence after being convicted for a domestic assault that occurred in January. The incident took place at the YMCA in Cambridge, where he assaulted his girlfriend following an argument by splashing bleach on her clothing, hurling a dustpan at her, and physically attacking her through punching and kicking. The violence intensified when Sheaf pushed her down a staircase within the YMCA stairwell, where staff later found her. She sustained injuries including cuts, bruises, and head lumps. Sheaf was detained at a train station in the city after police located him nearby, and he admitted to charges of cannabis possession and actual bodily harm (ABH) during his hearing at Peterborough Crown Court on December 4th. The court sentenced him to one year in a young offenders’ institution. PC David Tyler, who led the investigation, stated that Sheaf lacked remorse even when viewing CCTV footage of his assault. Authorities reaffirmed their focus on domestic abuse cases and encouraged victims to come forward for help. The injuries and emotional impact inflicted on the victim contributed to the court's decision to uphold the sentence following his guilty plea.
