NORMAN KIRBY SENTENCED IN WASHINGTON FOR DECADES-OLD SEXUAL ASSAULT AT HOUSE PARTY

A man identified as Norman Kirby, whose actions date back over 25 years, has finally faced justice for a sexual assault that occurred during a house party in Washington. The incident involved a teenage girl who, at the time, was left sobbing and trembling after waking up to find Kirby abusing her. The court proceedings revealed that the victim, who chose to keep her traumatic experience secret for more than two decades, finally found the strength to come forward and report the assault.

Norman Kirby, now aged 59 and residing in Rickleton, Washington, was sentenced to 21 months in prison after pleading guilty to charges of indecent assault at Newcastle Crown Court. The court heard how the victim, who was a minor at the time of the attack, endured years of emotional pain and suffering in silence. During the sentencing hearing, she delivered a heartfelt impact statement from the witness box, describing how the assault had profoundly affected her entire life. She stated, “I feel every aspect of my life has been affected by what he did to me as a child.”

She further explained that the trauma created a damaging “blueprint” for her future relationships, leading to ongoing issues with trust and intimacy. The judge acknowledged her bravery in speaking out, describing her as a “survivor” who had ensured that Kirby’s past actions would finally come back to haunt him. As part of his sentence, Kirby was also ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, a measure intended to protect the community and prevent further harm.

The judge emphasized that the justice system stands firmly behind victims of sexual abuse, stating, “Ultimately and finally it has caught up with you.” The court also noted that Kirby exploited the victim’s intoxicated state during the assault and admitted to having paedophile tendencies, which added weight to the severity of his crimes.

Representing Kirby, solicitor John Wilkinson presented over a dozen character references, all of which praised Kirby’s character and suggested he had moved on from his past. Wilkinson highlighted that Kirby has experienced mental health issues and has become a “completely different person.” The judge concluded that, given his age and the circumstances, Kirby is unlikely to pose a threat to the courts again in the future.
