Humphrey had been ‘horrified’ to hear of the abuse suffered by his relative and had sought to find and remove such material.
He pleaded guilty to downloading, possessing, and distributing hundreds of indecent images, including several deemed to be in the most severe category A.
He also used the Telegram messaging system to share more than 100 images depicting child sexual exploitation.
The offences occurred between October 30, 2023, and February 26, 2024.
Humphrey, who now lives in Wales, was sentenced to 682 days in jail.
His name will stay on the sex offenders register for 10 years upon release.
The court noted that Humphrey had been ‘candid’ with social workers and assessed as posing a ‘low’ or ‘average’ risk of reoffending, but the sheriff believed a custodial sentence was necessary because the offences involved the serious distribution and download of explicit images.
