NIGEL ATKINSON FROM LITTLE LEVER SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN BLACKPOOL AND ALICANTE

In a case that has shocked the local community and beyond, Nigel Martin Atkinson, a 52-year-old man from Little Lever, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. The crimes took place in both Blackpool, where the abuse was initially committed, and Alicante, Spain, where Atkinson had relocated in search of a new life after leaving Bolton.

Atkinson's criminal activities came to light during a seven-day trial, during which he vehemently denied the allegations. Despite his denials, the jury found him guilty of raping a child, as well as committing two counts of sexual assault and one count of assault. The court heard that the abuse was carried out against a girl under the age of 12, with the incidents spanning different locations and times.

The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about Atkinson's behavior. Witnesses testified that he had threatened other children who might have witnessed the abuse, warning them with ominous words about “the devil.” Such threats were intended to silence witnesses and prevent them from coming forward with information about the crimes.

It was also disclosed that Atkinson had lived in Spain, specifically in Alicante, after moving from Bolton, where he grew up and resided on Grasmere Avenue in Little Lever. His decision to emigrate was reportedly motivated by a desire for a “new life,” but it did not prevent law enforcement from pursuing justice.

The sentencing was handed down by Recorder Dennis Desmond at Stafford Crown Court. In addition to the 14-year prison term, Atkinson was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and to adhere to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which imposes strict restrictions to prevent further offenses. It is believed that Atkinson is a father to five children, a fact that adds a further layer of concern regarding his character and the impact of his actions.

This case underscores the importance of vigilance and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect vulnerable children from predators, regardless of where they may attempt to hide or start anew.
