NEGLECTED DOGS IN EXETER PROPERTY RESULT IN LIFETIME BAN AND JAIL SENTENCE
SWIPE TO SEE ALL PHOTOS.A man has been banned from keeping animals for life after four French bulldogs were found abandoned in squalid conditions, with two of them already dead.
Nicolas Bailey Parker, of Cromwell Road, Neithrop, Banbury, admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to the dogs, which were discovered on Omaha Drive, Exeter, by RSPCA inspectors and police.
On Wednesday, June 19 last year, inspector Jim Farr attended the scene alongside officers and housing officials after concerns that more animals might be trapped inside.
The property was in a filthy state, with extensive mould on the walls, a build-up of rubbish, and faeces visible upstairs.
One room contained the decomposing body of a male French bulldog cross.
The dogs—named Luther, Piper, Peach, and Finger—had been left alone from May 8 to June 19.
Post-mortem exams showed the deceased dogs were emaciated, while the survivors were severely underweight but recovered well in RSPCA care and have since been rehomed.
Parker was sentenced at Exeter Crown Court on October 13, receiving a suspended seven-month prison term, 100 hours of unpaid work, and up to 30 days of rehabilitation.
He cannot appeal the animal ban for 15 years.
The judge called it a rare and extraordinary case due to the prolonged neglect and suffering, with two dogs dead and two severely injured.
Parker had struggled with caring for the dogs while his partner was unwell and had left them behind after moving out.
