BLACKPOOL HORSE BREEDER BANNED FOR NEGLECT AND CRUELTY
A horse breeder named Nicola Haworth has been handed a 10-year ban from keeping animals after keeping 31 horses in deplorable conditions.
The RSPCA reported that she kept the horses in 'dilapidated' mud-filled stables, with some animals found 'shaking in pain' due to 'crippling lameness'.
Haworth was convicted of two offences under the Animal Welfare Act by magistrates in Blackpool.
In addition to the animal ban, she was subjected to a curfew from 08:00 to 18:00 and ordered to pay £4,000 in legal costs.
The RSPCA inspectors found that her stables had not had the doors opened in months, with dirty bedding stacked halfway up the doors, making them impossible to close once opened.
Several horses, suffering from severe conditions such as overgrown hooves and immobility, were immediately put down—six horses were euthanized on spot, and five more on welfare grounds later.
The remaining 20 horses were removed for care and re-homing.
Haworth, of Jubilee Lane, was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to 24 horses and neglecting the needs of 31 horses.
