JEALOUS MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND BREACHING RESTRAINING ORDER
A court has heard how Nicky Gould, a 32-year-old man with previous convictions, behaved violently towards his partner, leaving her with a head injury.Gould, who is of no fixed address, throttled his partner and forcefully slammed her head against a window, causing a blood smear on the glass.
Notably, he was present at the woman's house despite being under a restraining order banning contact following a prior assault.
Gould has a record of seven previous convictions involving 11 offences, including assault and harassment of a former partner.
During the incident, Gould was drinking with the complainant and a friend when an argument escalated into physical violence.
He pushed her to the floor, then got on top and placed his hands around her throat.
The woman managed to stand but was pushed again, hitting her head.
Gould exited the property, taking her house keys and driving off in her car.
He was later arrested in Neath.
Gould had previously pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and taking a vehicle without consent.
He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison in January but the sentence was suspended for 24 months.
However, in April 2024, the sentence was activated.
The court sentenced Gould to 16 months in prison, to run concurrently with other sentences, and disqualified him from driving for four months, increasing by eight months due to current offences.
Gould is also subject to a new five-year restraining order.
His advocate acknowledged his issues with alcohol and his feelings of insecurity, stating he realises the need to address these.
The judge emphasized Gould's repeated violence towards his partner, ordering that he serve up to half of the 16-month sentence before release on licence.
The court reinforced the importance of restraining orders and the seriousness of domestic violence.
