BASILDON DOMESTIC ABUSER JAILED FOR SIX YEARS OVER ATTACK
A serial domestic abuser was caught on camera kicking and stamping on his girlfriend's head - then gloating to her stepfather that she wouldn’t be able to walk.Serial domestic abuser Nicholas Bright, 38, flew into a jealous rage because he thought his girlfriend had been flirting with somebody at a music festival.
But he waited until they returned to her home in Basildon late at night before launching the savage attack.
The brutal assault was captured from start to finish on the victim’s CCTV camera – and was heard down the telephone by her stepfather.
Bright then boasted down the phone that he would ensure his girlfriend could not walk, drive or even lift anything by the time he was done.
He was jailed for six years at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
The court heard that on May 19, Bright began threatening the woman during the music festival in Rayleigh – with several other attendees supplying witness statements about his abusive behaviour.
She was so concerned she called her mum and asked her to come and help her, but Bright, of Tennyson Avenue in Grays, talked her into coming with him instead.
However, prosecutor Daniel Setter, said: “She had a feeling that violence would occur once they were home.” As they entered the victim’s back garden, she was on the phone to her stepfather, telling him how “embarrassing” Bright’s behaviour at the festival had been, before Bright attacked her.
“There is an initial blow with the elbow to the face that places her on the floor,” said Mr Setter.
“There is then a melee of kicks to the head.
I count ten.” “While she was lying prone on the floor, on a concrete patio, you kicked her head and you stamped on her.
There can be seen nine or ten separate kicks.
It was a persistent and prolonged incident.” The victim was briefly knocked unconscious.
“She had a broken tooth, a ripped ear, a swollen face and a suspected fracture to the nose,” added Judge Cohen.
Bright – who sometimes uses the name Nicholas Gray – pleaded guilty to all three charges, including attempted GBH, criminal damage, and cannabis possession.
He has convictions for 25 previous offences, including previous domestic violence, common assault, repeated assaults on police officers, and breaching restraining orders.
Remarkably, the woman attended court to support him and even wrote a letter urging the judge not to send him to prison.
She also refused to consent to a restraining order.
The court was warned that another incident could put her life at risk.
