YATE MAN NEIL MORGAN CAUGHT WITH 400 INDECENT IMAGES OF BOYS IN BRISTOL
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Yate, Neil Morgan, a 48-year-old resident of Sandhurst, was found to possess an alarming collection of indecent images depicting young boys.The investigation, which culminated in court proceedings in Bristol, revealed that Morgan had stored nearly 400 such images on his personal devices, raising serious concerns about his conduct and the potential risk to minors.
According to the prosecution, Simon Goodman, police authorities uncovered that Morgan’s mobile phone contained approximately 130 indecent images of boys, while his computer housed an additional 263 similar pictures.
The authorities also discovered around 500 photographs of boys dressed in swimwear, alongside approximately 1,500 images that were not classified as indecent.
These findings paint a disturbing picture of Morgan’s digital collection, which included photographs of boys aged between 12 and 15, captured in various states of undress.
During the court proceedings, Morgan admitted to downloading and storing these images, acknowledging that he was aware of the material’s illicit nature.
He explained to police that he had a “dark side” related to this type of material, but he insisted that he did not derive sexual gratification from his collection.
Morgan told the authorities that he believed there were around 1,000 images in total and that he last accessed the material approximately two months prior to his arrest.
In his defense, Morgan’s legal representative, John Stokes, expressed remorse on his behalf.
Stokes emphasized Morgan’s recognition of the harm caused to the children depicted in the images and his willingness to cooperate with the probation service.
The defense highlighted Morgan’s previous good character and his desire to seek treatment.
Judge Julian Lambert delivered the sentence, which included a community order with three years of supervision aimed at addressing Morgan’s troubling interest.
The court also mandated that Morgan undergo up to two months of sex offender treatment.
Additionally, Morgan was placed under a 10-year sexual offences prevention order, which restricts his access to the internet unless he can provide a retrievable browsing history for police inspection.
He is also required to register as a sex offender for the same period.
The judge addressed Morgan directly, stating, “With your offence comes the shame for you.
The likelihood is you will lose your job as a result.
You are of previous good character and are thought to be treatable by the probation service.” Lambert also noted that Morgan’s deep-seated interest in child images might be linked to unusual aspects of his background, though no specific details were provided.
The court’s ruling underscores the seriousness of the offense and the ongoing risks posed by individuals with such tendencies, emphasizing the importance of supervision and treatment to prevent further harm.
