GREENFORD TEENS JAILED FOR DEADLY MUGGING OF ELDERLY WOMAN
Jiervon Bartlett and Nayed Hoque, both 15 years old at the time, received six-year sentences after being convicted of manslaughter in the death of 85-year-old Paula Castle in Greenford.The fatal event took place last November when the two boys robbed her, causing her to fall and sustain fatal head injuries.
Due to the seriousness of the case, the judge decided to lift their anonymity order.
Police reports indicated that Paula Castle, who was partially sighted, was pushed to the ground during the attack, leading to her death the following day.
The perpetrators also used her money and bank card to purchase food and charge their phones.
The following day, they also admitted to robbing a 75-year-old woman.
Prosecutor Andrew Edis QC characterized the incident as a severe example of reckless violence, emphasizing that the boys showed no concern for her safety.
Mrs.
Castle had faced numerous hardships, including the loss of her husband and son, as well as suffering a stroke, yet she managed to live independently.
Her daughter-in-law, Jane, spoke of her resilience amid blindness and frailty.
Witnesses described the attack as horrifying and shocking for the community, reflecting what some see as society’s moral decline.
