KENT MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON VULNERABLE WOMAN
A convicted sex offender, Nathan Gifford, who had previously been convicted of rape and unlawful sex with a girl under 16, was sentenced to 10 years in jail for molesting a woman he helped to get into her home after she was locked out.Gifford was found to have poses a significant risk to women, with the judge, Adele Williams, stating that he lacked remorse and insight into his crimes, and a risk of causing further harm.
Gifford, aged 50, was acquitted of rape in this case but convicted of assault by penetration.
The incident involved Gifford offering to help the victim, climbing through her window, and then sexually assaulting her, which she reported to the police after the assault.
His DNA matched samples taken from the victim, leading to his arrest.
Gifford’s history includes previous convictions for rape and unlawful sex with a minor.
He was still on licence from his earlier rape conviction when the latest offence occurred.
As part of his sentence, Gifford will serve two-thirds of his sentence before being considered for parole and will be on licence for an additional five years.
He is also barred from working with children or vulnerable adults and will be listed on the sex offenders’ register for life.
The court proceedings highlighted the impact on the victim, who had struggled with the trauma, and Gifford’s attempts to deny or minimize his involvement.
