NATHAN CAMPBELL CAUGHT WITH ILLEGAL CHILD IMAGES IN THURSO - SENTENCING NEXT MONTH

A young man from Thurso, Nathan Campbell, is set to face sentencing next month after being found in possession of illicit images involving minors. Campbell, aged 22, pleaded guilty to charges related to the creation and possession of inappropriate photographs of teenagers aged between 13 and 16 years old. The offences occurred over a span of more than three years, from April 18, 2017, to November 14, 2020.

According to the proceedings at Wick Sheriff Court, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Campbell's residence on Thorfinn Terrace, Thurso, on November 18, 2020. During the search, they recovered a mobile phone belonging to Campbell, which was subsequently subjected to a detailed forensic analysis. The examination uncovered 31 still images that depicted young teenagers in provocative poses, although there was no evidence of sexual activity in the images. These images were classified as Category C, which is considered the lowest level of severity in such cases.

The investigation revealed that the images had been taken at two different addresses in Thurso, as well as other locations, indicating a pattern of illicit activity over a period of time. The case was adjourned by Sheriff Krista Johnson until May 24, when she will review mitigation statements and a background report before delivering her sentence. In the meantime, Campbell has been placed on the sex offenders' register, and his mobile phone has been ordered to be forfeited as part of the proceedings.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about the possession and distribution of illegal images involving minors, and the legal process continues as authorities seek to ensure justice is served.
