MUSTAFA OGUR SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR RAPE IN ROSS-ON-WYE
A man identified as Mustafa Ogur has been handed a significant prison sentence of 16 years after being found guilty of raping a woman in the town of Ross-on-Wye. The conviction was secured following a trial held at Worcester Crown Court, and the sentencing took place on Monday, 7 April.Ogur, whose address is listed as Brookend Street in Ross-on-Wye, now faces a lengthy period behind bars. In addition to his prison term, he will be subject to an extended licence period of eight years once released, and he will also be under a lifetime sexual harm prevention order. These measures are designed to monitor and restrict his activities to prevent any future offenses.
The investigation into the assault was initiated after a woman was attacked near the intersection of Three Crosses Road and Springfield Road in Ross-on-Wye during the early hours of Sunday, 21 July 2024. Authorities quickly responded to the incident, and evidence collected during the investigation painted a disturbing picture of Ogur’s behavior prior to the attack. CCTV footage revealed that the 24-year-old suspect had been actively targeting potential victims before the assault. Witnesses also reported that Ogur used Google Translate on his mobile phone to communicate with women, telling them, “I want to make love to you,” in an apparent attempt to lure or intimidate them.
Following the assault, Ogur was swiftly arrested on 25 July 2024. When police officers entered his residence, they found him in the shower, having shaved his head in an apparent effort to alter his appearance and evade recognition as the suspect. The police response was thorough, and the evidence collected led to his charges of rape and sexual assault.
Detective Inspector Ben Pearson of Herefordshire CID expressed his thoughts on the case, emphasizing the bravery of the victim. He stated, “It takes such bravery to first report and then talk about such a horrific experience, and I commend the victim, who has shown incredible strength and courage throughout the investigation and trial. I understand that nothing will ever take away the pain and suffering from such an experience.”
He also commented on the sentencing, saying, “I am pleased with the sentencing given to Ogur yesterday. I’m unsure if a person capable of such an evil crime would reflect on the harm he has caused an innocent person, but I do know Ogur is a dangerous individual who will thankfully no longer be amongst our community for some time.”
Finally, Detective Pearson urged the public to remember that it is never too late to report sexual offenses. He added, “If you have been a victim or you know someone who has been a victim of this crime, please know that we are here to listen to you and support you through every step of the process.”
