MAN SENTENCED FOR RAPE
Muhammad Nasir, born on 18 December 1985 and residing on Stockport Road, Ashton Under Lyne, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court to 12 years in prison plus four years on license following his conviction for a rape that occurred in July 2021.The victim and her mother reported the assault through LiveChat on 24 August 2021, showing commendable bravery.
The court heard that on 24 July 2021, the survivor was out with friends at a nightclub on Deansgate before leaving alone and calling her mother to confirm she was heading home.
Outside the nightclub, she got into a taxi unbooked, driven by Nasir.
During the journey along the A6 towards Longsight, Nasir diverted into a secluded, tree-lined cul-de-sac off the main road, where he stopped and subjected the survivor to sexual assault and rape.
After the assault, Nasir drove her to an ATM to withdraw money, taking around £70 before dropping her off at her home.
Investigations revealed that the trip, which should have taken about 20 minutes, extended to approximately three and a half hours.
The survivor reported the incident a month later, showing courage in coming forward.
CCTV footage from the nightclub confirmed her getting into Nasir's taxi, with the vehicle's registration linked to him.
An arrest was made on 15 September 2021 at an address on Ashton Road by Tameside officers.
Nasir was also issued a restraining order, banned from driving taxis again, and added to the sex offender register permanently.
