UK DOCTOR CAUGHT HAVING SEX WITH NURSE DURING SURGERY
A married doctor, Dr Suhail Anjum, 44, had sex with a nurse in an operating theatre during an ongoing surgery while a patient was sedated, a medical tribunal has heard.Dr Anjum, a consultant anaesthetist, was caught in a 'compromising position' by a colleague at Tameside Hospital who walked in on him and the nurse, referred to as Nurse C.
The incident occurred when Dr Anjum had asked another nurse to monitor a patient while he took a break but instead went to another theatre and engaged in sexual activity.
A different nurse, Nurse NT, entered the theatre and saw Nurse C with her trousers around her knees and Dr Anjum tying his trousers.
Nurse NT was reportedly shocked and exited immediately.
Dr Anjum later admitted to the GMC that he engaged in sexual activity with Nurse C and acknowledged that his actions could have endangered the patient.
He left the UK in February 2024 and returned to Pakistan but expressed a desire to resume his medical career in the UK, promising that it was a 'one-off error of judgment'.
He described the incident as 'shameful' and stated: ‘I let down everybody, not just my patient and myself but the trust and how it would look.’ The tribunal continues to decide whether he is fit to practise medicine.
Dr Anjum apologized and expressed remorse for his conduct, which took place during a stressful period following the birth of his youngest child.
The incident has prompted disciplinary proceedings; he faces possible removal from the medical register.
