MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR SERIAL RAPE AND ROBBERY
Footage of the moment a predator was arrested for a ‘campaign of rape’ has been released.Mourad Malki, also known as Sid Ali Djled, has been jailed for life after being found guilty of raping one woman and two men over a four month period last year.
He attacked them at their most vulnerable, before robbing them, a court heard.
He also robbed another man of his phone and bank cards after luring him away to a secluded area.
The attacks took place in Manchester’s Canal Street, with Malki ‘laying in wait’ before identifying his victims.
Sentencing the 39-year-old as a dangerous offender, Judge Tom Gilbart told him: “Undoubtedly this was a campaign of rape.
All of the evidence suggests that you are a predator.” Following his sentence on Monday, October 6, Greater Manchester Police have released bodycam footage of the moment Malki was arrested.
In the 30 second clip, an officer tells Malki he is under arrest for rape.
He replies: “Rape?” to which the officer says: “Do you know what rape is?” The defendant shakes his head and says: “No,” before she explains: “A sexual assault”.
Malki doesn’t respond, before the officer informs him that they are waiting for a police van to take them to the station.
He was found guilty of five offences of rape, as well as theft and fraud.
He previously pleaded guilty to three offences of theft.
Jurors heard that the first victim, a woman, had gone into the city centre for a few drinks in February last year.
None of the complainants can be identified for legal reasons.
She had visited a number of bars on Canal Street, and by her own admission was ‘extremely drunk’.
At some stage she ended up in a car but could not recall how and why, before she was dragged out and attacked.
Another victim, a man, was visiting Manchester for work purposes in June last year.
During the night they had gone out for a few drinks in The Village, before he went outside for a cigarette by himself.
He was then approached by the defendant before they walked to Richmond Street.
The defendant then ‘aggressively’ raped him twice in an alleyway before stealing his phone.
He also stole his watch and gold necklace, which was a gift from his late grandmother.
He said in a statement: “I have struggled to come to terms with what happened.
I feel like I will never be the same person again.
I have distanced myself from friends and family.
He also robbed another man during the campaign, stealing his phone and bank cards and using them to buy items at a shop nearby.
Mitigating, Jacob Dyer, said: “These are appalling offences.
He had no regard to the dignity of the victims.
“He doesn’t accept the offences and denies any sexual offending.” Malki, of no fixed abode, was jailed for life to serve a minimum period of 16 years in prison.
Of that he must serve two thirds of the term, namely 14 years and 291 days before he will be considered safe to be released into the community by the Parole Board.
He was also placed onto the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Senior Investigating Officer Paul Davies from GMP's Major Incident Team said: “Djelid deliberately targeted vulnerable individuals, approaching intoxicated victims and luring them to secluded areas under false pretences.
“His actions were calculated, predatory, and deeply disturbing.
In each case, he not only subjected his victims to horrific sexual assaults, but also stole personal items, adding further trauma to an already devastating experience.
“We want Manchester to be a City that welcomes everyone — a place where people can live, work, and visit without fear.
Our officers work tirelessly to ensure that our streets throughout the day and night, remain safe and that those who seek to harm others are brought to justice.
I would like to commend the bravery of the victims who came forward and supported this investigation.
Without their assistance, we would not have been able to put this dangerous individual behind bars.”
