AYLESBURY MAN JAILED FOR LIFE INSURANCE MURDER OF WIFE
A man who murdered his wife at their Buckinghamshire home and tried to claim it was an accident to get her life insurance has been jailed.
Zarina Bibi, 40, was found with multiple head injuries and died at the scene at Glaven Road, Aylesbury, on 16 March.
The couple had five children.
Mohammed Tariq Aziz, 44, was convicted by majority verdict after a trial at Reading Crown Court.
He was ordered to serve a minimum of 22 years in jail.
Speaking after the case, Thames Valley Police said Aziz had taken out an insurance policy on his wife's life shortly before her death and had "growing financial difficulties".
"He attempted to disguise the killing as an accident and later suggested that it had been carried out by someone else," said Baljit Ubhey, chief crown prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service.
"He was traced because of thorough detective work, which revealed small spots of his wife's blood on his shoes.
"He attempted to suggest that the blood might be the result of his wife suffering from nose bleeds, although he made no mention of this to the authorities until the trial.
"He tried to persuade two of his children to lie to the police on his behalf, but eventually they told the police about the pressure he had put on them."
