EX-SERVICEMAN ON SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER AFTER INAPPROPRIATE PARTY BEHAVIOUR
A former Army serviceman named Mitchell Tarbit, who was stationed at Kinloss Barracks, was removed from a Christmas party at RAF Lossiemouth on December 9, 2023, after he touched a woman in a sexual manner. The incident occurred during a festive gathering in the Officer’s Mess, where approximately 200 people were present.
The Elgin Sheriff Court heard that Tarbit, aged 24 and now residing in Cumbria, approached a group of people during the event, consumed a significant amount of alcohol, and attempted to engage them in conversation.
During this interaction, he mistakenly believed he had placed his hand on the woman's lower back, but in fact, he had touched her top of the bottom.
The woman was reportedly distressed by the incident, and RAF police removed Tarbit from the premises.
Defense solicitor Matthew O’Neill stated that his client was a first-time offender and expressed that Tarbit felt remorseful, describing the incident as unfortunate.
The court also learned that Tarbit had already been registered as a sex offender.
Sheriff Eric Brown ordered that he remain on the Sex Offenders Register for the next five months and placed him under the supervision of the court for the same duration.
