HARINGEY RAPIST GETS 12 YEARS AFTER COLD CASE DNA MATCH
A man named Milton White, aged 46, of Albany Road, Camberwell, was convicted for the rape that occurred over 22 years ago in Haringey. The attack took place in the victim's home during the early hours of May 14, 1990, where White broke into the house and assaulted a 60-year-old woman.
During the assault, White covered her mouth with his hands and raped her, then rifled through her clothing and stole £1,200 in cash, which she had won that night at a casino in Mayfair.
The victim, who died in 2006, had woken up to find White in her bedroom and raised the alarm, prompting police involvement.
Despite extensive investigations, the suspect remained unidentified until a cold case review by the Cold Case Sapphire Team led to the discovery of a DNA match.
White was arrested at Southwark Police Station, where he remained silent during police interviews, and was later charged with rape and burglary.
He was sentenced at the Old Bailey to 12 years for rape and an additional four years for burglary, both terms to run concurrently.
Detective Constable Andy Beete from the Cold Case Team expressed satisfaction with the conviction, noting the persistent effort of the authorities and expressing condolences that the victim is no longer alive to witness the outcome.
