FORMER GREAT YARMOUTH RECTOR ACCUSED OF CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A former vicar has been charged with sex offences against a boy dating back to the 1980s.The Reverend Canon Michael Woods, 81, is accused of three charges of indecent assault against a boy aged under 16.
The offences are said to have occurred between March 1986 and June 1988.
He is due to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on June 10.
Woods, of Barn Close, Lingwood, is already due to stand trial at Norwich Crown Court in August having previously denied a separate allegation of indecent assault on another male aged between 17 and 18.
That offence is alleged to have taken place between August 1997 and August 1999.
Woods served as rector of Great Yarmouth for 17 years before retiring in 2009 and moving to Kuching in Malaysia.
He was arrested and charged with the 1990s allegation while visiting Norfolk last year.
The latest charges come while he is on unconditional bail awaiting his trial which is expected to last up to six days and is scheduled to take place from August 11.
