A man who punched his girlfriend while she was lying on the floor in the road has been jailed.Norwich Crown Court heard Liam Hinchcliffe, 39, was seen "towering over" the woman before hitting her in the head while she was on the ground in Great Yarmouth.
Martin Ivory, prosecuting, said the woman "ran off" and was followed by Hinchcliffe before another "further disturbance" happened further down the road.
The prosecutor said the victim suffered a "number of injuries" following the incident on August 10 last year.
Mr Ivory said it was not known how the injuries were caused.
Hinchcliffe, of Vale Green, Norwich, appeared at court on Thursday (January 29) having pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Jailing Hinchcliffe for six months, the judge said the defendant had hit the victim while she was on the ground, although he conceded it was a single punch.
Andrew Oliver, mitigating, said the defendant, who admitted the offence, had been in custody for the past five months.
He said they had a good relationship prior to the incident.
The court was told the victim, who could not remember what happened, had been involved in a confrontation with someone else earlier that evening.
