YARMOUTH MAN IN COURT FOR CANNABIS GRINDER ASSAULT
A jealous man threw a cannabis grinder at his partner after becoming angry when a neighbour touched her leg, a court has heard.
Michael Webb was with his girlfriend at a property in Victoria Road, Great Yarmouth, when the incident happened.
Norwich Crown Court heard the 36-year-old, who had been drinking rum, threw the object - used to break down dried cannabis to make it easier to smoke - and told the woman: "Make a f*****g spliff." Prosecutor Chris Youell stated that the grinder struck her in the leg.
Police were called and found Webb in the street shouting his girlfriend's name and throwing objects at windows.
Webb, from Maud Terrace, Yarmouth, appeared in court on Thursday after admitting assault by beating and criminal damage.
He also admitted a breach of a suspended sentence order - two years imprisonment suspended for 18 months - imposed in March 2024 for a battery offence in Basildon.
Mitigating, Rob Pollington said Webb had been diagnosed with autism or Asperger's and used drugs in the past.
The court's recorder Ruth Brander said "fortunately" Webb's partner suffered no injury in the incident on June 21, 2025, and imposed a 12-month conditional discharge for the assault and criminal damage.
Webb's suspended sentence order was extended by six months.
