MICHAEL WARIBO SENTENCED FOR DECADE OF SEXUAL ABUSE IN DUNDEE AND THURSO

A man named Michael Waribo, aged 49, has been found guilty of a series of severe sexual offences that spanned over ten years, involving two young girls in the towns of Thurso and Dundee. The lengthy trial revealed the disturbing extent of his crimes, which included repeated acts of sexual assault and manipulation over an extended period.

According to court proceedings, Waribo engaged in nearly daily sexual abuse of the victims, with reports indicating that the assaults occurred consistently from May 2011 through May 2019. The victims, who testified during the trial, described a pattern of ongoing abuse, with one recounting that she was raped almost every day during that period. The court heard how Waribo used threats and violence to control and silence his victims, warning them that speaking out would lead to their families breaking apart and them being hated by others.

During the trial in Aberdeen, prosecutors detailed how Waribo fabricated stories to cover his tracks. One such story involved him claiming to have experienced an 'out of body' event during which he saw himself engaging in sexual acts with one of the victims. He also claimed that he needed to purchase a pregnancy test kit for her, further illustrating his attempts to manipulate the situation.

Evidence presented in court also revealed Waribo’s efforts to conceal his crimes. It was disclosed that he attempted to hide evidence by scrubbing blood off a carpet after some of the assaults, indicating a clear attempt to destroy physical proof of his misconduct. The prosecution emphasized that Waribo’s threats extended beyond physical violence, aiming to instill fear and prevent the victims from speaking out.

Throughout the trial, the victims provided detailed testimonies describing the prolonged abuse they endured. One victim specifically recounted being raped nearly every day over an eight-year span. The defense team challenged the credibility of these claims, arguing that the evidence was insufficient to establish guilt and questioning the reliability of the victims’ testimonies.

Waribo was convicted on multiple counts, including four charges of rape, two counts of throttling his victims, and lewd behavior. The severity of his crimes has prompted the court to schedule his sentencing at the High Court in Edinburgh, which is set for August 16. The court highlighted the gravity of the offences committed, emphasizing the lasting impact on the victims and the importance of delivering justice in this case.
