JAY DIXON FROM DUNDEE SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL VIOLENCE AGAINST BABY AND PARTNERS IN SCOTLAND

A man from Dundee, identified as Jay Dixon, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after a series of heinous acts involving violence against a newborn child and domestic abuse against two women, including the child's mother. Dixon, aged 23, was sentenced at Livingston High Court, where the presiding judge expressed serious concerns about his ongoing danger to the public and his inability to control his violent tendencies.

The court proceedings revealed disturbing details of Dixon’s actions towards the infant. It was reported that he forcibly submerged the baby’s head underwater in an attempt to drown him. During the sentencing, the judge noted that Dixon later confided in the child's sleeping mother, saying, “I tried to drown him but I stopped.” These acts were part of a pattern of cruelty and violence that persisted from the child's birth until he was just six months old.

Further evidence presented in court described Dixon’s aggressive handling of the infant. He was observed pressing down on the baby’s chest with such force that the child's body bounced on the mattress, a motion reminiscent of CPR but carried out with malicious intent and without medical necessity. In another distressing incident, Dixon reportedly lifted the newborn by the neck and shook him out of frustration caused by crying. Medical professionals confirmed that these actions placed the child at serious risk of life-threatening injuries.

In addition to the assaults on the infant, Dixon admitted to a pattern of domestic abuse directed at two women over a two-year period from 2021 to 2023. The abuse included coercive control, physical violence, and emotional manipulation, with the victims including the mother of his child. The court heard that Dixon’s behavior was deliberate and sustained, with repeated attempts to conceal his abusive actions. His lack of remorse and understanding of the severity of his conduct were highlighted by Judge Jane Farquharson, who emphasized that the absence of permanent injuries was purely due to chance rather than any restraint on Dixon’s part.

The judge also addressed Dixon’s troubling attitudes towards relationships. She pointed out his belief that contraception is solely a woman’s responsibility, reflecting a concerning view on gender roles and responsibility within relationships. The court described the victims as particularly vulnerable, especially the baby and his mother, and noted Dixon’s repeated efforts to hide his abusive behavior from others.

Details of Dixon’s earlier relationships were also discussed. The court revealed that when Dixon was 19, he engaged in controlling and humiliating behavior towards his then-partner, including pushing her outside in her underwear during an argument. The psychological scars from this period continue to affect her daily life. In subsequent relationships, Dixon’s controlling tendencies persisted and worsened, especially when alcohol and drugs were involved. During his partner’s pregnancy, his abuse escalated further, with reports indicating that he used weapons to threaten her, isolated her from friends and family, and prevented her from seeking help, even as she was pregnant with their child.

Judge Farquharson summarized that Dixon’s conduct across all these relationships and towards the infant demonstrated a consistent pattern of violence and coercion. She warned that without targeted intervention, he remains a significant threat to future partners and children. To protect the community, Dixon was sentenced to a total of 75 months (six years and three months) in prison, followed by an additional four years on licence, during which he will be under strict supervision. His sentence was backdated to December 21, 2023, the date he was first remanded into custody. The court also imposed non-harassment orders, including a ten-year ban on contacting his first partner and an indefinite prohibition against any contact with his second victim.
