MAN JAILED FOR EXTREME CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
An individual caught with a vast collection of highly disturbing child abuse imagery has received a two-year prison sentence.Michael Walsh, aged 30, from Banff in Aberdeenshire, admitted to possessing tens of thousands of images and videos involving young children, including very young children such as babies and toddlers.
The material also included content with animals.
These offenses occurred over a span from 2021 through 2025.
At Aberdeen Sheriff Court, Walsh, identified as a first-time offender, was informed that incarceration was the only suitable penalty.
Prosecutor Andrew McMann stated that police had acted on intelligence and conducted a search of Walsh's residence, where electronic devices and files were recovered.
The investigation uncovered a total of 33 hours' worth of video content.
Walsh explained to authorities that he had found the illicit material on the dark web, initially viewing it out of curiosity before seeking personal satisfaction.
In defense, Stuart Beveridge claimed Walsh was driven by compulsions and expressed that his client was "disgusted" by his conduct.
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin described the collected material as "colossal" and noted its extreme content.
She pointed out that even as a first offender, the case's severity left her no option but to order a custodial sentence.
The sheriff also stressed society's strong disapproval and the serious harm resulting from such crimes.
Because Walsh pleaded guilty, his sentence was reduced from three years to two.
Additionally, he was ordered to be on the sex offenders register for ten years.
