DERBYSHIRE SERIAL CHILD RAPIST SENTENCED TO OVER 21 YEARS
A repeat offender specializing in child sexual abuse has been given a sentence after a series of terrible crimes carried out over three decades ago.The allegations against Michael Taylor surfaced during a court case at Derby Crown Court, after the victims came forward to report their experiences.
All the incidents took place in the 1990s, with one victim stating she was repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted over several years while still a young girl.
Another survivor also described being subjected to repeated sexual assaults later in that same decade.
Taylor, who previously lived in Arkwright Town near Chesterfield, denied the allegations, but the jury convicted him on nine counts of child sexual offenses.
On May 10, he received a sentence of 21 years and six months in prison, with the duration extended because of how serious his crimes were.
Detective Constable Becky King, who led the investigation, commented, “The actions of Michael Taylor are beyond understanding.
He targeted young girls, depriving them of their childhoods and causing lasting damage to their ability to trust.
They suffered through many years before finally coming forward.
Taylor refused to admit his guilt and forced the victims to give evidence.
His sentence is one of the longest for such offenses, emphasizing the threat he poses.
While no punishment can undo the harm inflicted, I hope this sentence provides some closure for the victims and demonstrates that we will pursue justice against such dangerous offenders.”
