MILTON KEYNES MAN SENTENCED TO HOSPITAL ORDER FOR MANSLAUGHTER OF WIFE
After an investigation conducted by Thames Valley Police, 78-year-old Michael Sargeant, of Bradwell Road, Loughton, Milton Keynes, was convicted of manslaughter in Milton Keynes.He admitted guilt at Luton Crown Court to a charge of manslaughter caused by diminished responsibility, a plea that the prosecution accepted.
On 10 October, he appeared in court again and was sentenced to a Hospital Order under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act 1983, with no specified time limit.
This case pertains to the death of Christine Sargeant, a woman aged 73.
On the morning of Saturday, May 20, police responded to a call around 8am at Bradwell Road in Loughton, where they found Christine unconscious.
She received immediate emergency treatment before being taken to hospital, where she later died.
Michael Sargeant was detained at the scene and was formally charged three days later, on May 23.
A post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was neck compression.
Christine's family, who referred to Michael Sargeant as Andy, issued a tribute after the sentencing.
They described Christine as a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and great aunt, who had been happily married for over 50 years and was held in high regard in their community.
The family conveyed their thanks to Thames Valley Police, the prosecution team, and their community for the support received, and requested privacy as they move forward.
