MICHAEL PATERSON FROM LANCING AND NORTH LEIGH ESCAPES JAIL AFTER INDECENT IMAGE CHARGES
In a case that has drawn significant attention, Michael Paterson, a man with ties to both Lancing and North Leigh, was found guilty of possessing indecent images and cartoons of children on his personal computer.The offences took place over a span of several years, from 2008 to 2013, during which Paterson resided in North Leigh, Oxfordshire, before later moving to Orchard Avenue in Lancing, West Sussex.
According to court records, the prosecution, led by Charles Ward-Jackson, revealed that a total of 512 indecent photographs were discovered on three separate hard drives belonging to Paterson.
The images included various inappropriate and illegal content involving minors, which prompted the authorities to pursue charges against him.
During the hearing at Oxford Crown Court, Paterson, aged 32 at the time, admitted to the possession of these illicit images.
His defense attorney, Richard Lindsay, expressed remorse on his behalf, stating, “Mr.
Paterson is greatly remorseful for what he has done.” Despite the severity of the charges, the judge, Ian Pringle, opted for a sentence that reflected both the gravity of the offense and the possibility of rehabilitation.
Judge Pringle sentenced Michael Paterson to a term of 12 months in prison, but notably, this sentence was suspended for two years.
This means that Paterson will not serve time in jail unless he commits another offense within the suspension period.
The decision underscores the court’s approach to balancing punishment with the opportunity for the offender to reform, especially considering the circumstances and the remorse expressed.
