AMBULANCE WORKER JAILED FOR CHILD RAPE
A man has received a 14-year prison sentence after admitting to multiple sexual offenses involving a young boy, in relation to his employment at an ambulance service.David Newsom, aged 44 and a resident of Uckfield, was sentenced today after pleading guilty to eight charges of sexual misconduct.
Newsom was serving as an IT manager at the South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) when authorities arrested him on November 18.
It is understood that Newsom had been employed by Secamb since 2016.
Following the allegations, a spokesperson for the organization issued a statement on February 18 indicating that Newsom was suspended from his role immediately once the company was informed of the offences.
According to Sussex Police, Newsom's conviction followed the bravery of a young victim who reported the ongoing abuse.
Police arrested Newsom, residing on Regency Close in Uckfield, in connection with serious sexual crimes committed against a boy over an eight-year period from 2017 to 2025.
The victim was approximately 10 years old at the start of the abuse.
Charges were formally approved the morning after his arrest, leading to Newsom's remand at Brighton Magistrates' Court.
On January 7, 2026, during a hearing at Lewes Crown Court, Newsom admitted to eight charges including rape, four sexual assault counts on a child under 13, and three counts of sexual activity with a minor.
Following this, he was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing.
On March 26, at Lewes Crown Court, sitting at Brighton Magistrates', Newsom was sentenced to a term of 14 years behind bars.
